ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– On a beautiful Homecoming morning, Eastern University Field Hockey scored six times to claim a critical MAC Freedom win over the visiting King's College Monarchs (5-9. 1-2).
Abigail Geisler and
Joelle Wash each scored three goals in the 6-3 win.
How It Happened:
The Monarchs scored first, but Wash answered less than two minutes minutes later with a ringing blast from the top of the circle. All three of her goals came on penalty corners off inserts from
Becky Howard. The game did not stay tied for long. The Monarchs went up 2-1 on a goal with just over a minute to play in the opening period.
After the first quarter break, Geisler leveled the score. Her goal came on combination play off a penalty corner. After Howard played the insert to Wash, she pushed the ball to
Harper Sellers who found Geisler in a pocket nine yards out in the center of the goal.
less than four minutes later, Geisler put the Eagles up with a goal on a loose ball in front of the cage. While the Eagles only had five first-half penalty corners, they did have a significant amount of time in the Monarch circle.
Eastern (4-9, 1-2) earned another penalty corner less than two minutes into the second half. Wash smashed home another. King's scored to open the fourth quarter, but Geisler completed her hat trick with a goal in the 52nd minute and Wash finished hers with a strike in the 59th. Geisler leads the Eagles with 12 goals this fall.
Caitlyn Quizon made a pair of saves to pick up her first collegiate win.
Coach Azzarano Says:
"We are happy with a win. We scored six goals. We are not satisfied. I know there is more there. We have a week to practice and clean up the things that need to be cleaned up. Abi and Jo had good scoring days, and that's important for us to get them going. We will enjoy it for a few hours, but we have work to do."
Up Next:
The Eagles are at DeSales next Saturday. With the Bulldogs at 2-1 in the MAC Freedom, a result in that match would give the Eagles a critical tiebreaker in what is looking to be a very competitive hunt for spots in the MAC Freedom Tournament.
