MEDIA, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball (5-8) snapped a six-game skid with a 75-61 win at Penn State Brandywine (8-5). Sophomore forward Viki Kneis scored 17 points to lead the Eagles over a Lion squad that entered the game on a seven-game winning streak.

The Eagles never trailed in the contest and led 16-12 after one quarter. Kneis made good cuts off the ball and took advantage of several good passes for seven points in the opening frame.

The Lions scored the first basket of the second quarter, but Da'Naziah Brown scored the next five points to put the Eagles up 21-14. Kneis then scored on a fast-break hoop on a good look-ahead pass from Minika Glenn to put the Eagles up by nine points.

The Lions cut the deficit to 27-22 with two and a half minutes to play in the half, but Regie Robinson hit a 3-pointer late int he shot clock on a feed from Brianna Young-Harris to bump the Eastern lead back up to eight points. Young-Harris scored the final two baskets of the half to answer four points from the hosts.

Eastern bumped the lead to double-figures early in the half, but the Lions found answers from behind the arc or at the foul line. Brandywine was 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the second half and 4-of-9 from behind the arc.

The Eagles finished the third quarter on a 10-to-3 run to build a 54-40 edge. Naomi Harris scored six points in the run. Robinson scored eight of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Eagles pull away. She finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Kneis made her final five field goal attempts of the game and was 7-of-10 from the foul line. She had seven rebounds. Brown finished with 11 points, five assists, five rebounds, two steals and a block. Glenn and Young-Harris both had ten points.

Nikki Velez scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lions. Brandi James added 19 for the hosts.

"It was great to start 2019 with a win," Head Coach Eric Houston said of the game, "but we had way too many breakdowns on defense. We had some great defensive moments that sparked some runs, but we need to do a better job in all facets of our half-court defense. We have a big conference test at home on Wednesday."

All 12 of Eastern's remaining regular season games are in the MAC Freedom. The Eagles will host FDU-Florham at 8:00 pm on Wednesday.
