Women's Basketball Falls at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Playing in their sixth-straight league game without at least one starter, Eastern University Women's Baseball gave the host Manhattanville College Valiants all they could handle before falling 73-65. The Eagles tied the game at 58-58 with a little less than seven minutes to play before the Valiants (13-3, 4-2 MAC Freedom) closed out the game on a 15-7 run.

With Viki Knees out with injury and Regie Robinson and Jaelyn Harris saddled with foul trouble throughout, the Eagles (5-11, 0-6 MAC Freedom) needed to find scoring from other sources. Naomi Harris and Minika Glenn Carried much of the offensive load early. Naomi Harris finished the game with a career-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. The sophomore guard was 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Glenn, also a sophomore, scored 17 points off the bench.

With Robinson on the bench with foul trouble, The Eagles needed strong contributions from Brianna Young-Harris and MaryKate McGloughlin on defense and on the glass. McGlaughlin scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds in a season-high 18 minutes. Young-Harris finished with ten points and four rebounds.

The Valiants held a 14-10 lead early, but the Eagles closed out the first quarter on a 6-to-1 run to grab a one-point edge at the first break.

Robinson picked up her second foul two minutes into the second quarter with he Eagles up a point. The Eagles trailed by five with four minutes to play in the half, but a Naomi Harris Free throw and a Glenn 3-pointer helped the visitors to close the gap. Young Harris made a pair from the line to close out the half with the score tied at 35-35.

Both teams made five field goals in the third quarter, but the Valiants took more free throws and built a five point edge with ten minutes to play.

The Eagles tied the game at 58-58 on a Da'Naziah Brown lay-up with seven minutes to play, and the game was still a one-possession game after Glenn hit a pair of free throws with 2:21 on the clock.

A Valiant 3-pointers late in the shot clock put the Eagles down six and they had to start to foul. Manhattanville converted at the line to pull away.

Manhattanville went 29-of-38 from the foul line. Eastern went 16-of-22

Coach Houston Says:
"This was a tough one. We had good effort and execution on defense. Naomi and MK both stepped up with big efforts today. Da'Naziah had eight assists and five steals. We need to keep working to be able to close out games."
