CENTER VALLEY, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball came into today's match-up against the league-leading and No. 18 DeSales Bulldogs knowing that they need to keep their opponents from putting together a big run. The host Bulldogs put together two big runs in the first quarter and another in the second to break the game open on the way to a 73-44 win.
The Bulldogs (15-2, 6-0 MAC Freedom), who have outscored their opponents by over 500 points this season, opened the game on a 12-to-2 run. The Eagles caught their bearing with a 3-pointer from
Jaelyn Harris and a lay-up from
Brianna Young-Harris. The Bulldogs led 16-9 with 3:30 to play after
Da'Naziah Brown finished inside. DeSales closed out the period on a 10-to-2 run to lead 26-11 at the break.
Young-Harris opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer and the Eagles had whittled the DeSales lead to 30-19 on a Brown 3-pointer with 6:50 left in the half. The Bulldogs closed out the first half with a 16-to-0 run.
Eastern was only 3-of-11 from the field in the second quarter and the Bulldogs shot 8-of-17 from the floor.
The Eagles chipped away in the third and the start of the fourth, but the deficit was too large and the Bulldogs to deep seriously challenge the lead. Eastern pulled within 17 on two occasions in the fourth, but DeSales closed out the game on a 17-to-4 run.
Young-Harris led the Eagles with 14 points and eight rebounds. Brown had 11 points and three assists. Minika Glen added 12 points off the bench.
