Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Stopped at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Eastern University Field Hockey gave up two goals in the final ten minutes to drop a 3-1 match at Haverford College. Ali Hoag scored on a penalty corner in the 60th minute to tie the score at 1-1, but less than a minute later, the host Fords (3-0), reclaimed the lead on a one-tie shot off a cross.

How it Happened:
The Fords had most of the play in the first half. Despite a 15-1 edge in shots and a 4-0 edge in penalty corners, the Eastern defense kept the hosts to a single goal in the frame. Marley Redfield had nine of her 12 saves in the first half.

The match flipped after halftime. The Eagles (1-3) had seven corners to only four for the Fords in the second half, and an 8-7 edge in shots. That pressure meant something when the Eagles earned their fifth penalty corner of the half. Harper Sellers played insert. Hoag eluded defenders and banged home her fourth of the year to tie the match.

The Fords scored on their next two shots to grab a two-goal edge. The Eagles had chances late, but Haverford goalie Hannah Roth made two saves in the final three minutes to preserve the win for th hosts.

Coach Azzarano Says:
"We are proud of the team for staying mentally tough after having four  games in eight days. We battled to get back into this game today.

"We are continuing to learn how to attack as a team. We made some changes in starting positions, and we are hopeful that some of these changes will help us to develop more consistent chances. The team is aware of the need to stay organized in the defensive circle, and our defensive communication continues to improve."
