ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Eastern University Field Hockey Scored four times in the opening 15 minutes of the game and cruise to a 7-1 win over the visiting Immaculata University Mighty Macs (1-1).
Alison Hoag scored twice and added an assist to pace the Eastern attack.
Corners Count
Eastern had a 9-0 edge in first-half corners and a 15-2 advantage for the game. While that was the result of an advantage in field position throughout the game, the Eagles converted five of those chances into goals. Each of Eastern's first four goals came in penalty corner situations.
Macey Talhelm scored first on a redirection of a drive from Hoag in the second minute. Talhelm has goals in each of Eastern's first two games. She picked up a helper on a goal in the sixth minute to put the Eagles up 2-0. She redirected a
Joelle Wash drive toward the right post, and
Becky Howard was in position to slap home her first of the year.
Hong scored the next two. She cleaned up a rebound on a Wash shot in the 10th minute and then redirected a drive from Wash for a 4-0 lead before the midpoint of the half.
A Second Strong Start:
After watching the attack wane through the final minutes of the first half, the Eagles aimed to jump out to a quick start in the second half.
Ali Balmer did just that. The junior midfielder picked up a loose ball in the circle and slapped a strong shot back across the goal for her second tally of the year.
Late Success:
Maya Wales got on the board for the year with a 64th minute tally after
Alexis Gooch won a ball near midfield and played a long pass into the circle. Wales clipped the pass around the goalie for a 6-0 lead.
Harper Sellers closed out the scoring after the Mighty Macs scored in the 67th minute. Sellers slammed home a touch from classmate
Hannah Doll.
Coach Azzarano says:
"We challenged the team after the Albright game. There were some very specific breakdowns that we needed to fix, and the team rose to the occasion. We had clear communication, and our defensive group was very solid. We have more work to do, but I am excited for the potential we have. We are looking forward to building off of this win."
