Harley's First Career Goal Lifts Men's Soccer Past Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – Eastern University Men's Soccer got a first half goal from Zach Harley and made that tally stand in 1-0 win over the host Cabrini University Cavaliers. The Eagles (5-2) have won the last six Eagle Road rivalry match-ups to level the series at 18-18 dating back to 1982. It is the thirteenth 1-0 game between the neighboring schools.

How It Happened:
Harley's goal came in the 37th minute after Cabrini's goalkeeper stopped a shot from Bryce Wahinya. Harley's first attempt was blocked, but the sophomore midfielder kept after it and drove home his first collegiate goal on the rebound. Harley started 16 matches in the back row in 2017.

The Eagles had several great chances early in the second half as extended possession deep in the Cabrini end led to five corners in the opening ten minutes of the half. Colin Furlong served in several dangerous balls including one on goal. Billy Walenda had a header at the back post that was cleared off the goal line by a Cabrini defender.

As the half progressed, the Cavaliers came out of their defensive shape and put pressure on the Eastern net. Their best chance came on a dangerous restart from the left side in the 83rd minute. Anthony Hitchcock came off his line well to cut away the cross before a Cabrini attacker could redirect it. Hitchcock finished with one save in his first career shutout.

Coach Payne Says:
"We played a decent game tonight. We knew that if we control the boxes and if we limited our mistakes in our half of the field that we would put ourselves in a good position to win the game. I thought we did that."

"Cabrini played with a little deeper line tonight and  let us have the ball on our own side. They made it very hard to play and possess in their half, and they did not leave a lot of space behind for us to run into. Whenever we were able to play penetrating balls and keep it, we were at our best and able to create chances, but I do not think that we found enough quality penetrating balls tonight. Had we been more purposeful with our possession, I think we could have found more good chances."

"It was great to see our guys that came off the bench to stay in the level of play that we are looking for."
