ST. DAVIDS, Pa.–
Jacob Myers scored two second half goals, but Eastern University Men's Soccer saw a 2-1 lead vanish in the final seconds and settled for a 2-2 draw with the visiting Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (4-3-1).
How It Happened:
The biggest moment came in the final seconds. With the Eagles (5-2-1) milking a 2-1 lead, the visitors committed numbers forward. The Eagles tried to clear a ball from danger but were unable to get it past the LVC attackers. Rob Hanosek poked the ball to Noah Campomizzi inside the penalty box. Campomizzi's left footed shot found the inside of the far post to knot the match.
Jacob Myers scored twice on restarts in the final 15 minutes of regulation. The senior center back headed home a
Colin Furlong serve after an LVC foul on the flank to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the 76th minute. The Dutchmen tied the match in the 79th minute, but Myers again put the Eagles up with another headed goal in the 86th minute. Furlong hit an initial corner that the Dutchmen cleared. The Eagles found Furlong on the left flank and his serve found Myers on the back post.
Myers had a chance to win in the second overtime, but LVC goalkeeper Sean Quirk stood his ground and made a huge save on a volley from close range. Quirk's other big save came late in the first half on a diving stop of a shot in tight by
Evan Needs.
Eastern had a 17-11 edge in shots and a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Coach Payne Says:
"We are not happy with a draw today. It feels like a loss in many ways. We still leave things up for chance when we don't do a good job of carrying ourselves on the field. I thought we didn't look like a team at times today. I saw some selfishness, some bad body language, and not enough positivity and belief. We have talent but not enough to not do those things well."
"Jake Myers had a phenomenal day on many levels. He set the tone and standard for our team. Not enough guys followed his lead today."
