ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Soccer fell behind early and was unable to find a goal in a 3-0 loss tot he visiting Stockton University Ospreys (4-1-3).
Adrianna Rowlands finished with nine saves in the loss.
How it Happened:
The Ospreys earned a corner kick in the first 70 seconds of the match. A big serve made it the back post post untouched where Stockton midfielder Salena LeDonne gathered the ball and slipped a shot just inside the far post from six yards out. While the visitors had more of the ball through the first half, the Eagles had forays into the Stockton end that looked promising. Eastern had two good attempts in the 18th minute, but a Stockton defender made a lunging block of an
Amy Radcliffe shot and the follow up attempt from
Nicole Weenink sailed high. The Ospreys had a 13-4 edge in first-half shots.
The vistors doubled their edge in the 59th minute on a cross from an inside channel to the back post. Jessica Heitmann scored from six yards out. Radcliffe nearly grabbed the goal back second later, but her close-range header went off the crossbar and out.
Alyssa Scalen played the serve into the area.
The final Stockton goal came on a free kick in the 74th minute.
Eastern had three great chances in the final 16 minutes, but Stockton senior goalkeeper Nicole Palente made saves on shots by Weenink and
Casey Avello, and
Alondra Cervantes ripped a shot from 20 yards out that drifted just wide of the post.
Coach West Says:
"For the most part today, we played well today. We were able to secure possession for extended periods and had more of the ball this game. We had three mental breakdowns that led to their goals. We have to limit mental mistakes. We got behind early that is all it takes to put us behind."
"When we had Zoe and Lon together, they did a good job keeping the ball and keeping our team settled. Carli has played very well in the back. We competed and played with discipline."
Up Next:
