MIDDLETOWN, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Soccer grabbed a lead in the tenth minute, but the host Penn State Harrisburg Lions tied the match on a late penalty kick and earned a 2-1 win on a 95th minute tally.
How it Happened:
On Eastern's first shot of the match,
Alondra Cervantes headed home a
Zoe Galvin corner kick. Her first goal of the year is the 14th of her career.
The Eastern defense kept the Lions on the perimeter for most of the half.
Adrianna Rowlands made just one save in the frame and the Eagles held a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Eagles had the first chance of the second half on another corner kick, but
Amy Radcliffe's effort was turned away. Eastern put four shots on frame after the intermission.
The Lions equalized on a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Another Eastern foul gave the Lions the chance they needed in overtime. Rowlands made the save on the initial shot, but the hosts followed it well and put it away from only a few yards out for the game-winner.
Coach West says:
"We played a great first half. We battled and were disciplined. Lon got a really nice goal."
"We struggled to get the ball down and play in the second half. We fouled a lot and they were able to pump a lot of balls in the box. We had a competitive spirit today which was great to see, but we lacked discipline during crucial moments in the game."
