WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Tennis got off on the right foot with a pair of doubles wins, but
Lauren Good was the only Eastern winner in singles competition in a 6-3 loss at King's College in MAC Freedom competition.
Emma Paugh and Good combined to win at first doubles in by an 8-6 score.
Olivia Weaver and
Shannon Jugler continued their strong play at second doubles with an 8-6 win as well.
"Lauren had two volleys in the final point of the doubles match. The first one was a little defensive, but she finished the match with a decisive finish at the net." Head Coach
Mark Spangler said after the match. "She did a really good job controlling her points from the baseline in singles. She beat a very good player. She was strong on both sides with her ground strokes and was able to make her opponent work for every point."
Good won 6-3, 6-4 at second singles.
Weaver won her opening set 6-2 and the fourth singles spot before falling 6-2,4-6, 7-5 in a marathon that was every bit as long as the score.
The Monarchs won the other four singles matches in straight sets.
"Olivia played her mirror image in a tough match." Spangler said. "Emma played some really great points at first singles, but it seemed that every one of her great shots came back. We are looking forward to getting back out there on Wednesday."
The Eagles (4-2, 0-2 MAC Freedom) are at Delaware Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
