DALLAS, Pa. – With uncertain field conditions at home, Eastern University Softball played a home doubleheader at Misericordia this afternoon. Though they batted first, the host Cougars felt at home in their familiar surroundings and put together big sixth innings in both games to sweep the MAC Freedom doubleheader.
The Eagles fought back from a 4-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth inning in the opener.
Emily Loomis pounded an RBI double and
Taylor Crown and Maddie Iswalt each delivered RBI singles, but the rally ended with two runners on base.
The game remained at 4-3 until the top of the sixth. The Cougars pounded out seven hits and scored six runs to break the game open. The Eagles went quietly in the sixth and the Cougars plated two more in the seventh for a 12-3 lead. The Eagles put two runners on in the seventh but were unable to cut into the Cougar lead.
Misericordia plated three unearned runs in the first and added three more in the fifth before
Grace Gonzalez doubled to drive in
Jess Snader in the bottom of the fifth.
The Misericordia bats opened up a barrage in the sixth. The hosts scored eight runs on seven hits to open up a 14-1 lead. Five of their hits in the inning went for extra bases.
The Eagles (4-10, 0-6 MACF) will host FDU Florham in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 2:00 pm.
