ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – After starting the season with 14 games away from home, Eastern University Softball finally played at home. The Eagles hosted FDU in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for the middle of March but pushed back repeated times because of rain and snow. The visiting Devils hit five home runs in sweeping the doubleheader.
The Eagles managed only two hits in falling 9-0 in the opener.
Melissa Irick singled with one out in the second, but the Eagles could not drive her in. The Devils scored twice in the top of the third to pull ahead 4-0 and then broke the game open with a five-run fourth. The Devils pounded out nine hits and two home runs in the win.
FDU scored three times on a pair of home runs in the first to jump out to a lead in the second game. They added five runs in the second and four more in the third. The Eagles (4-12, 0-8 MAC Freedom) loaded the bases with no one out in the third, but could only score twice to cut the deficit to 12-2. All seven of the Eagles' hits in the doubleheader were singles.
Meagan Quinn was the bright spot in the circle for the Eagles. The senior came on in relief in game two and did not allow a run over 2.2 innings.
The Eagles are at Widener for a doubleheader tomorrow.
