ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.–
Zach Bauer won 15-of-19 faceoffs and scored a goal and an assist to lead Eastern University Men's Lacrosse to a 10-5 non-league win at St. Mary's College. The Eagles dominated possession throughout and built an 8-1 lead before the Seahawks scored four of the games final six goals.
Sean Fechter scored his first of three on the day in the second minute to give the Eagles an early lead before the Seahawks answered with a man-up goal in the fourth minute to tie the game. The hosts would not score again until late in the third quarter.
Bauer won the next three faceoffs of the period, and the Eagles were able to turn that possession into a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.
Matt Auletti found
Jake Billera to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead with 10:45 left in the period, and Billera added a second with six seconds to play after the Eagles earned possession back on a
Jameal Hadeed save with 37 seconds to play in the frame. In a harbinger of things to come, Bauer won the final faceoff and put a shot on goal as the period ended.
"We did a good job winning faceoffs," Head Coach
Kevin Wallace said after the game. "Zach did well and our wings did a nice job. When We get possessions, we are going to be able to score some goals."
The second quarter started just as the first ended. Bauer won a faceoff and played a quick give and go with
Mark Buannic for his first goal of the year. With a 4-1 lead eight seconds into the second period, the Eagles grew in confidence. Fechter scored his second to force a St. Mary's timeout less than three minutes later.

"They sat in a zone for a bit," Wallace added, "and that slowed the game down. Once we figured it out, we were able to get the kind of opportunities we want, with guys catching the ball in spots where they can shoot. We had six assists on our ten goals. That is a good sign for us."
The Eagles found the net three times in a 96 second stretch in the third to to break the game open. Fechter found
Sam Emig for a 6-1 lead, and after another Hadeed save, Billera set up Fechter. Buannica capped the burst with his 14th of the year off a pass from Bauer directly off the faceoff.
The Seahawks stopped the Eastern run with a goal with 5:54 on the clock, but Buannic buried his second of the day less than a minute later for a 9-2 edge.
Kyle Fanelli scored his first of the year in the final seconds of the third period off a pass from Buannic to close out the scoring.
