CARLISLE, Pa. – Eastern University Men's Lacrosse finished the non-league portion on its schedule with an 11-5 loss at No. 9 Dickinson College (8-2). Playing their fourth game against a top-20 team this spring, the Eagles (3-6) played with the Red Devils, but a five goal burst over a five and a half minute stretch in the fourth quarter broke the game open for Dickinson.
Five Eastern players scored in the game, and the Eagles forced Dickinson goalie Cole Pellicano to make 13 saves.
The Eagles scored first when
Sean Fechter found
Mark Buannic on the doorstep in the fourth minute. Buannic finished his team-best 16th of the year. The Red Devils then controlled possession with four goals before the Eagles could get the ball back on offense.
Jameal Hadeed made one of his ten saves in the run, but the Eastern possession was negated by a flag.
The Red Devils had the better of the matchup at the faceoff X with a commanding 15-3 edge for the day. Dickinson won all nine first half faceoffs.
Eastern answered each of the next two Dickinson goals with tallies from
Jake Billera and
Hassan Mackey, but the hosts keptthe Eagles from gaining multiple chances to dig into the lead with solid possessions and winning faceoff play.
Down three, the Eagles had to press out in the fourth, and the Red Devils put together the decisive five goal burst to build an 11-3 lead.
Matt Auletti and
Sam Emig scored in answer, but there would not be enough time for a comeback.
The Eagles will play again at Delaware Valley University in the MAC Freedom opener for both teams next Saturday.
