Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Nipped at Immaculata

MALVERN, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse rallied from a four-goal second-half deficit to tie the game, but the host Immaculata University Mighty Macs scored two goals in the final 100 seconds to pull away to a 14-12 win. Liz Brennan and Julie Haggan scored four times, and Mackenzie Dix added three second-half tallies.

The Mighty Macs (3-1) led 8-4 at halftime and seemed poised to hold that edge for the duration as they answered a pair of Dix goals to start the second half and led 10-6 with 17 minutes to play. With the cold and the win making possession difficult, draw controls were at a premium for both teams. Out of the timeout, Sam Brennan secured a tough draw control and Liz Brennan converted that possession into a goal to cut the Immaculata lead to 10-7.

Sam Brennan led the Eagles with eight draw controls in the game. The senior defender also caused five turnovers and scooped up four ground balls.

The Mighty Macs had the next possession, but Marcie Spencer turned away an Immaculata free position attempt and the Eagles eventually regained possession. Spencer had 14 saves on the evening.

Dix caught a ball in tight and after being jostled by several defenders earned a free position shot. She converted for her third goal of the second half to close the gap to 10-8 with 14 minutes left. After Stephanie Arnold forced a turnover and ran the clear deep into the Eastern end, Haggan caught a pass from Allison Andres at goal-line-extended and worked into the fan before bouncing a shot in to keep the Eastern come-back alive.

Haggan tied the game at 10-10 on a free position shot less than a minute later. The Mighty Macs, however, scored off the ensuing draw control. Liz Brennan tied the game with her third of the day with 4:43 to play and the Eagles earned the draw, but a turnover in the clear gave Immaculata a chance to retake the lead, and they converted.

Brennan again tied the game with 1:51 on the clock. The senior fought through several tough checks at the edge of the fan and delivered a high shot to make in 12-12. The goal is her 13th of the year and 82nd as an Eagle. With 18 assists to her credit since transferring into Eastern, she now has 100 points in 19 games.

The Mighty Macs won the next draw and grabbed the lead for good. Eastern battled for the next draw control, but Immaculata was able to control and keep possession for the win.

Head Coach Kim Campbell was pleased with her team's determination in the rally and their effort throughout. Eastern won 17-of-28 draws and did very well converting on chances in the attacking end. Campbell wants to see her group grow in composure in their clears and continue to be balanced in the attack.

Eastern will play at Swarthmore College on Saturday.
