HAVERFORD, Pa.– While Eastern University Women's Basketball came out of finals week a little healthier than they were at the start, The Eagles struggled to find the shooting range in a 68-35 loss at Haverford College.
The host Fords (8-2) broke open a 9-7 game with a pair of 3-pointers and held a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Regie Robinson scored the first basket of the second quarter, but the Ford defense stiffened and the hosts put together a 9-to-0 run to build a 13-point lead midway through the second period. The teams traded points the rest of the way in the half, but Haverford held a 29-17 lead at the break.
Eastern made only 8-of-26 shots (30.8 %) in the frame and connected on only one 3-pointer. The Eagles did not shoot a free throw in the first half. The Fords only hit 12-of-33 from the floor, but they connected on four 3-pointers.
As the Eagles continued to struggle from the floor, the hosts extended the lead with 20 points in the third quarter. The Eagles were able to score in transition, but struggled in the half court. Haverford hit 14-of-21 from the floor in the second half.
Regie Robinson led the Eagles with 18 points.
Brianna Young-Harris had six points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She was the only other Eastern player with multiple field goals in the game.
"We were not good today," Head Coach
Eric Houston said after the game. "There were a few moments early in the game that we let impact us more than we should have. We will continue to work on playing each defensive possession the whole way through and executing better on offense. We are a better shooting team than this, but we have to execute better."
The Eagles are back in action this coming week with a pair of games at the Hoop MIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami.
