ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.–
Gina Miller scored in the 51st minute to break a 1-1 tie, and Eastern University Field Hockey won its third consecutive game with a 2-1 win at Elizabethtown College.
The match is a bit of a homecoming for Eastern's senior captain. She went to Elizabethtown High School and hails from nearby Mount Joy. Miller also scored what proved to be the game-winner when the two teams played at Elizabethtown in 2015.
Alison Hoag scored the only goal of the first half on a blast from the top of the circle in the 19th minute. The Eastern defense continued its impressive play. The Eagles had not allowed a goal in two full games going into today's match and did very well keeping the Blue Jays away from goal. Elizabethtown had only one shot and one penalty corner in the first half.
"
Moriah Greene and
Macey Talhelm were huge on defense for us today." Head Coach
Camrin Azzarano said after the match. "Etown was aggressive and pushed us to do a better job taking care of the ball. We had a tough time getting on our strong side of attack, but we worked hard through the heat and got the extra goal we needed for the win."
The Blue Jays tied the game with a goal in the 43rd minute. The goal snapped a string of 195 scoreless minutes for the Eagles.
Undeterred, Eastern fought off an Elizabethtown penalty corner before picking up a penalty corner in the 51st minute.
Maya Wales played the insert, and Miller put it away her third goal of the season with a blast from the top of the circle.
Nicole Berger finished with six saves to earn the win.
The Eagles (4-5) will play at DeSales in an important MAC Freedom test on Saturday.
