Womens' Tennis Tops Monarchs

Box Score ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Tennis swept the doubles and won five-of-six singles matches to claim an 8-1 MAC Freedom win over the visiting King's College Monarchs on Saturday.

Laura Thomas and Emma Paugh had the toughest doubles match of the day, but Eastern's top pair battled to an 8-6 win. Lauren Good and Shannon Jugler claimed an 8-4 win at second doubles and Leslie Henry and Olivia Weaver swept through the third spot without dropping a game.

Laura Thomas, in her first singles match of the season, fell in three sets.

"Laura is just getting back into singles," Eastern Head Coach Mark Spangler said, "it is good to have her back. Today's match will help prep her for the rest of the season."

Paugh and Good won convincingly at the top two spots, and Weaver and Emily Thomas had secured the match before Henry even stepped on the court. Henry won 8-4 in a pro set.

"We did what we needed to do today," Spangler said. "All the way through, we did a nice job dictating points and forcing them to make shots to score."

The Eagles (5-3, 2-1 MAC Freedom) are at Messiah on Monday before returning to MAC Freedom play with a home match against Delaware Valley on Wednesday.
