ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– A 5-1 Misericordia run at the close of the first half broke open a close game, and the visiting Cougars (6-2, 1-0 MAC Freedom) pulled away to an 18-8 win over Eastern University Women's Lacrosse in the MAC Freedom opener for both teams.
Liz Brennan and
Julie Haggan each scored three goals in the loss.
The Cougars scored the first three goals before
Liz Brennan scored on a nine-yard missile to start the Eastern scoring. The Cougars answered with a goal before Haggan,
Anna Charlebois, and Brennan scored to tie the game with 13:37 on the clock.
The Cougars started the decisive run with three goals in a ninety-second span.
Julie Haggan took advantage of a Misericordia turnover to score a quick transition goal with 3:43 on the clock, but the Eagles trailed 9-5 at halftime.
The Misericordia lead grew to 15-6 with nine minutes. Brennan and Haggan scored back-to-back tallies 27 seconds apart, but Cougars were able to salt away the clock and earn the MAC Freedom win. The Cougars scored their final goal with .9 seconds on the clock.
Alina Odjemski made a career-high 15 saves in the loss.
The Eagles will look to level their league record when the travel to DeSales on Saturday.
