Box Score RADNOR, Pa. – Eastern University Women's Tennis won 9-0 across the street at Cabrini University. The convincing win in the rivalry match is the third win in a row this year.
While the Eagles were working through their doubles matches, Taylor Weirch earned the first singles point of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth singles. Weirch was able to close out games and win critical points in a match that was closer than the final score.
"It was good for Taylor to play well at six for us." Head Coach
Mark Spangler said. "She has won two in a row at the sixth spot, and that is an important point."
Eastern controlled the action through the three doubles matches.
Lauren Good and
Shannon Jugler attacked throughout the match to claim an 8-1 win at second doubles.
Laura Thomas and
Emma Paugh won 8-2 a the top spot and
Olivia Weaver and
Leslie Henry made quick work of their opponents at third doubles. Spangler is hopeful that Laura thomas will be able to return to singles play soon. The senior has been limited to only doubles play while she rehabilitates an injury. Her play looked strong today, and her presence in the lineup, Spangler believes will help at each of the singles spots.
Paugh won 6-0,6-2 at first singles in a match with many close points.
"Emma did a good job of finishing points," Spangler said. "Their player [Elena Conway] made a lot of shots, but Emma was able to keep points alive and finish when opportunities were there."
Emily Thomas won 6-0, 6-4 at fifth singles and Good and Henry both won convincingly at second and third singles.
Olivia Weaver played a marathon first set and emerged with a 7-5 win after her opponent fought off several set points. Between the sets, Spangler asked his freshman to win it in two. She obliged with a strong 6-1 win in the second set.
The Eagles are scheduled to play at Wilkes on Wednesday.
