Women's Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse fell by the slimmest of margins in a 15-14 heartbreaker at Manhattanville College on Wednesday Night. Neither team held a three-goal lead at any point, but the host Valiants went up 15-13 with just under seven minutes left in the game. Liz Brennan put away her sixth goal of the game to close the gap to a single goal with 3:44 on the clock, but the Eagles were unable to find the equalizer in the important MAC Freedom contest.

The Valiants scored the first two goals of the game, but the Eagles led 4-3 midway through the first half. the two teams went to intermission tied at 8-8. Five different Eastern players scored int he first half. Sam Brennan, Anna Charlebois, and Alex Vincent each scored single goals. Julie Haggan had three and Liz Brennan had a pair. "We made some poor passes and questionable decisions on our offensive end," Head Coach Kim Campbell said of the final minutes of the game. "We robbed ourselves the ability to tie the game, and earlier in the game to establish a substantial lead. Even with those mistakes we had the ball when we needed to have it, but we did not capitalize."

While the draw controls were even at 7-7 in the second half, the Valiants seemed to win the key ones that led to chances. The Valiants converted 5-of-14 free position shots. Led by Liz Brennan's 3-for-3 performance, the Eagles made 5-of-10.

Liz Brennan has 51 goals through 13 games as an Eagle.

The Eagles (3-10, 1-3 MAC Freedom) will likely need to win their final three games to have a chance to make the MAC Freedom Tournament. The Eagles will play at King's on Saturday.
