Men's Lacrosse Tops Manhattanville

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse never trailed in picking up a 12-3 win over the visiting Manhattanville College Valiants. Tim Lamb and Mark Buannic each scored four goals to lead the Eastern attack.

Matt Martin opened the scoring less than a minute into the game on a pass from Bryan Goetz. Two minutes later, Lamb made a strong move from behind the cage to dump home his first of the day. Moment's later, Lamb played the part of the provider and set up Martin for an open look in transition.

The Valiants got on the board three minutes into the after Colin Morrissey snared a high shot behind the cage and fed an open Tristan Green in front of the goal. Manhattanville then trimmed the Eastern lead to 3-2 with a man-up goal only 54 seconds later.

Zach Bauer, won the ball back on the ensuing faceoff, and the Eagles restored a two-goal edge on Buannic's first tally of the day. Bauer had a terrific day at the faceoff X. The freshman specialist won 14-of-17 and grabbed 7 ground balls. His work and solid wing play from Chris Durning and Bryan Mizell helped the Eagles to dominate possession in the contest.

Fechter found Buannic for another Eastern tally with four and a half minutes remaining in the half. Kenny Meury created some excitement after he picked up a ground ball in front of the Eastern goal and split a trio of Valiant defenders on a clearing run. The senior defensive midfielder drove to the box and drew a close defender before passing to Mizell in front of the goal.  Mizell bumped the ball along to an open Lamb on the doorstep.

The Valiants scored the opening goal of the third period, but Buannic scored with six minutes left to increase the Eastern lead to 7-3, and Jake Billera put away a solo effort with 4.4 seconds on the clock to close out the third.

Elliot Moore bounced home his first goal of the season three minutes into the seconds half. Lamb added two more, his 21st and 22nd goals of the year before Buannic wrapped up the scoring after another good clearing run from Meury. Lamb picked up an assist on the play and now has 98 goals and 45 assists in his career. Only three Eastern players have reached the 100 goal plateau. With his next goal, Lamb will tie Chris Farrar for the fourth spot. David Darling scored 117 times and Eric Waibel scored 118. Those two graduated in 2015 with Eastern career goals leader Grant Ferguson. Ferguson had 188 goals. Lamb played two years in the midfield before moving to attack when that class graduated.

Jameal Hadeed returned to goal after missing time with injury and looked sharp. The junior stopped 11 shots in 54 minutes. Austin Mutter made a pair of stops in relief.

The Eagles (8-6, 3-1 MAC Freedom) currently sit alone in second in the league standings. They will host King's Collage at 1:00 on Saturday.
