Box Score ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Tennis took an important step toward securing a MAC Freedom Playoff spot with an 8-1 win over the visiting Delaware Valley University Aggies.
The match, according to Head Coach
Mark Spangler, was closer than the final score with many closely contested games within the individual matches. He was pleased with the way his team competed.
The doubles matches set the tone for the day.
Laura Thomas and
Emma Paugh fell behind 4-0 in their match at the top doubles spot before rallying to claim the point with an 8-6 win.
Lauren Good and
Shannon Jugler continued their strong play from Monday's non-league win at Messiah and won 8-5 at the second spot.
Olivia Weaver and
Leslie Henry ground out a 9-7 win at the third spot.
Up 3-0 heading to singles, the Eagles jumped out to a good start with quick victories at first singles from Paugh and third singles from
Laura Thomas. It is just the second singles match of the year for
Laura Thomas.
"It is good to have Laura back in the line-up and healthy," Spangler said. "I believe that will be important for us as we look to earn a home match in the MAC Freedom Tournament."
After winning in doubles, Good ground out a three-set win. She dropped the opening set, 6-1, but battled back to claim the second set 6-2 and won 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker in the final set.
Weaver won her match in a pro-set at fifth singles.
The Eagles have nearly a week and a half off before resuming play at DeSales on April 22nd. The Eagles can take another important step toward securing a top-three spot with a win in that match.
