ST.DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse dropped a 15-6 result to the visiting FDU-Florham Devils (10-3, 3-0 MAC Freedom).
Liz Brennan scored three goals to lead the Eastern attack.
The defending MAC Freedom Champion Devils led 6-0 at the midpoint of the opening frame. Head Coach
Kim Campbell was not displeased with her team's defense in the early going, but felt that a few early mistakes in transition put her team behind early.
Anna Charlebois scored just after the midpoint of the half to break the Devil streak of goals. FDU answered with two quick goals, but the Eagles grabbed both of those back when
Jazzlyn Sullivan put away a free position shot with five minutes left and
Liz Brennan carried her free position attempt deep before finishing with her right hand.
Sam Brennan forced a turnover to get possession back for the final minute. The Eagles worked the ball and
Liz Brennan had an open look from eight yards out, but FDU goalie Megan Nemeth made the stop and the Devils raced to the other end and tucked away a goal with three seconds left in the half.
Though the Devils scored the first four goals of the second half, the Eastern coaching staff was pleased with the effort and execution of their team's defense.
"Our defense was under a lot of pressure today," Head Coach
Kim Campbell said. "I saw a lot of good things.
Sam Brennan had seven caused turnovers and created great opportunities for our team."
The Eagles picked up three yellow cards in a 60 second span and had to improvise a four player zone. The Eagles actually caused a turnover down three players and
Julie Haggan ran the clear, but unused to playing down three players, the clear was negated by an offside player. The Devils then capitalized with a goal two-players up and another one up a single player. to lead 13-3.
Liz Brennan found Charlebois for her 40th of the year. A few minutes later, Charlebois returned the favor. The pair combined again when Brennan put away her third of the day and 45th of the season on a pass from Charlebois.
"This was a good team and some good lacrosse was played," Campbell said. "I am proud of my teams ability to play the whole game and work for every goal today. "
Alina Odjemski made ten saves in goal for the Eagles. The two FDU goalies combined for ten saves.
The Eagles (3-9, 1-2 MAC Freedom) will play at Manhattanville next Wednesday.
