Women's Tennis Falls in the Gloaming to LVC

Box Score ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Tennis fell by the slimmest of margins in the first match of the spring. Down 2-1 after doubles, the Eagles secured three wins in the first five singles matches to finish. Olivia Weaver won her first set at fourth singles, but her counterpart from Lebanon Valley College rallied to claim the second set as the sun set.

The two players elected to play out the match even in the fading fading light and LVC's Elizabeth Drda claimed the 7-3 tiebreaker and the match for her team.

"I was pleased with the way we competed today," Head Coach Mark Spangler said after the match. "We got really good matches from Emma [Paugh] and Lauren [Good] at the top and Shannon [Jugler] earned a tough two-set win at six. It has been a long time waiting to get out and play, and I think we saw some good stuff."

Paugh won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles, and Good earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win at the second singles spot. Spangler was pleased with Good's aggressive shot-making in her singles match. Jugler won 7-5, 7-5.

Leslie Henry and Weaver combined to win at third doubles.

"We will continue to work on doubles play," Spangler concluded, "but I am very encouraged by the way we played today and am looking forward to more matches."

The Eagles are away for their next four matches. They will be at Penn State Abington on Tuesday.
