ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball used a 37-7 run over a 13-minute stretch to pull away from the visiting King's College Monarchs.
Taylor Price scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out seven assists, and the Eagles cruised to a 75-49 win.
King's (4-16, 2-8 MAC Freedom) made 7-of-14 from the floor to hold a 17-14 lead after the first quarter. Five different Eastern players scored in the first ten minutes, but the team made only 5-of-13 shots.
The Eagles (14-7, 5-5 MAC Freedom) missed 2-of-3 shots to start the second quarter and trailed 19-16 with eight minutes left in the half. Price then tied the game and started the decisive run with a 3-pointer. The junior guard was 2-of-3 from behind the arc on the afternoon.
The Eagles outscored the Monarchs 18-4 in the period and made 6-of 8 shots to close out the period.
Emily Lavin took advantage of good post position and excellent passing for eight points in the period. Lavin also turned away a four Monarch shots int he first half to help the Eagles to a 32-21 lead at the break.
"We did a excellent job playing team ball on both ends of the floor," Head Coach
Eric Houston said. "We made the extra pass and communicated very well on defense."
The run continued to start the second half and the Eagles led 53-26 on a jumper from
Ashley Kurdziolek. The Eagles led by as many as 33 in the fourth quarter. Price picked up her seventh assist with nearly eight minutes left, but the junior guard left game with the game safe and three helpers short of a triple-double. She was 7-of-9 from the floor. It is the fifth time this year that Price scored exactly 20 points in a game. She also scored 21 points at Wilkes.
"Taylor's shots were on point." Houston said. "Those are shots that she practices day in and out. We did a good job moving the ball to get her the open looks on the perimeter and she did a nice job creating in transition and late in the clock. I was also pleased with the work
Kayla Holmes did pushing the tempo. She did a lot of things that will not show on the stat sheet. This was a very good team win."
Reggie Robinson and Lavin each finished with 14 points. Lavin added nine rebounds and five blocked shots.
Amanda Riiff made four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. Riiff has connected 50 times from distance to move into the fifth on Eastern's single-season list. The Eagles made 6-of-11 3-pointers and shot 51.9 percent from the floor as a team.
Junior guard
Amber Anderson finished with a season-high nine points. Rebecca Prociak led King's with 12 points.
The Eagles play at FDU-Florham on Wednesday night.
