Hot Shooting Leads Women's Hoops Past Wilkes on Senior Day

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– With the seeds already set for the postseason, Head Coach Eric Houston and his staff wanted to see their team finish the home schedule with a good shooting performance and have a chance to celebrate the career of Emily Lavin. The Eagles (17-8, 8-6 MAC Freedom) were able to do both in a 97-51 win over Wilkes.

Lavin was 6-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line with nine rebounds. Her last made field goal of the day was her second career 3-pointer. She finished with 18 points and now has over 1300 points in her career. She is Eastern's career-leader in blocked shots with 373 and is third in rebounds with 924. The team shot 58. 3 percent from behind the arc and made 17-of-21 free throws.

The Eagles scored the first 13 points of the game and led 25-3 at the end of the first quarter. Six different players scored in the period. Lavin made all three of her shots from the floor, and Ashley Kurdziolek came off the bench to hit a pair of 3-pointers to also have six points at the end of the quarter. Kurdziolek finished the day 5-of-9 from deep and scored a game-high 19 points.

"It was great for Ashley to find her shooting confidence today," Head Coach Eric Houston said. "She has been shooting well in practice and we did a good job of getting her good looks today."

The Eastern lead reached 40-10 midway through the second quarter on a strong drive and finish for a three-point play by Amber Anderson. Anderson finished the game with a season-best 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

The Eagles held a 49-20 lead at half and were shooting 58.3 percent (7-0f-12) from behind the arc. Eastern would match that number exactly in the second half. The Eagles had not made more than 3-pointers in any game this year. Eastern last made 14 in a game in Jan. of 2015.

With the outside shooting going well, the Eagles were able to get inside as well. Taylor Price scored eight points in the third quarter to help push the lead to 75-34. Price finished with 15 points.

The Eagles finished with 23 assists on 33 baskets. Kayla Holmes had a game high six and Regie Robinson had five, and seven other Eastern players recorded assists. Robinson also added ten points and nine rebounds.

"I thought we moved the ball well today and got good shots." Houston concluded. "We are going to want to build on that for Wednesday. We are looking forward to the chance to play in the playoffs."

The Eagles are at FDU-Florham at 7:00 pm on Wedensday. Misericordia University will host DeSales in the other semifinal.
