Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls at York

York, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse held a 2-1 lead after one quarter, but the No. 4 York College Spartans (2-0) scored five second-period goals to grab control of the game. The Eagles got three goals from Bryan Goetz, but fell 13-6 in their season opener.

York scored first, but the Eagles responded with goals from Trevor Gallion and Goetz to hold a 2-1 lead fifteen minutes in. Jameal Hadeed had seven saves in the first period to help the Eagles hold the lead. He finished with 14 stops in the game.

The Spartans scored three straight goals to start the second period and answered Goetz's second tally with five more heading into the third period.

"They were able to dictate the pace of the game," Head Coach Kevin Wallace said. "We did a lot of things right, and even got the ball on the ground several times, but they won the ground ball battle and were able to keep possessions going. The longer you wind up on defense, the more difficult it is to not make a mistake. They are a good team. When we made mistakes, they made us pay."

The Eagles were even on shots in the third period, but the pace was such that, according to Wallace, the team rushed shots because they were down.

"It is hard when you don't get into an offensive rhythm," he said. "You wind up trying to force things that are not there. When you play a top-ten team, you have to be pretty close to perfect. We were not perfect today."

Wallace was pleased with the work his freshmen did in their first collegiate action. He pointed specifically to Chris Durning and Brandon Callison at the LSM position and to the two freshmen who faced off. Zach Bauer and Connor Lowry were not quite 50 percent, but Wallace was pleased with their work in giving the Eagles a chance on almost every possession.

The Eagles host St. Mary's of Maryland on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
