MALVERN, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit to grind out a 60-53 win at Immaculata University.
Brianna Young-Harris scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Eagles.
Eastern scuffled on offense through the first half, but still managed to lead, 23-20, on an
Amanda Riiff 3-pointer in the closing seconds. The Eagles made only 30 percent of their shots in the opening twenty minutes. Young-Harris was the exception. The sophomore forward was 4-for-6 to lead all scorers with eight points at the intermission.
The Eagles did not allow their offensive woes to carry over to the other side of the floor. They held the hosts to only 8-of-29 shooting and 1-of-10 from behind the arc for the half.
That defensive effectiveness lagged for few minutes in the early part of the third quarter. Immaculata connected on three 3-pointers in a two-minute stretch to spark a 14-2 run. A fourth 3-pointer put Immaculata up 39-31 with just under four minutes left in the third quarter.
The Eastern reserves stepped up to close the gap.
Amber Anderson started the rally with a made free throw.
Maya Harris then connected on a 3-pointer from the wing to pull the Eagles within four before
Faith Gingrich grabbed an offensive rebound and converted a pair of foul shots.
After Young-Harris tied the game with a short jumper the Mighty Macs grabbed the lead back with a pair of free throws. Immaculata looked to have a chance for the final shot, but their 3-point attempt was a little early and Harris grabbed the rebound and threw ahead to Young-Harris who was fouled with less than a second on the clock. She split a pair of free throws and the Immaculata lead was cut to 41-40.
Five different Eastern players scored in a 10-3 run to start the fourth quarter. Riiff connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the game and Young-Harris powered home a three-point play on a nice pace from
Taylor Price in transition.
Young-Harris had not scored in double-figures in 31 career games coming into today. She matched her career-best with eight rebounds.
Price finished with 13 points and five assists. The senior guard made her mark on the game with six points in the fourth quarter. Price now has 981 points in her career.
The Eagles never trailed in the period but needed some key defensive plays down the stretch to hold off their hosts.
Taylor Azer had a key steal and
Regie Robinson pulled down several key defensive rebounds to grab possession back for the Eagles. Robinson finished with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Annie Kohutka led the Mighty Macs with 19 points.
The Eagles will be off for exams but will return to the court with home game against Kean next Saturday.
