Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Price Reaches Milestone; Women's Hoops Falls in OT

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Taylor Price became the fifteenth player in Eastern University Women's Basketball  history to reach 1,000 points for her career, but her 23 points were not quite enough as the Eagles dropped a heartbreaking 79-72 decision to Kean University (6-3) in overtime.

Neither team led by more than three points in  a closely-contested second half, but the Cougars held a 62-59 lead with a minute to play, but Taylor Azer hit a big 3-pointer from the corner to tie the game. Azer made three long-range efforts in the game and finished with 11 points.

The Eagles came up with a big stop, and Regie Robinson grabbed the rebound with under thirty seconds to play. Price, at this point had 18 points in the game and 999 points in her career. The Eagles worked the ball inside, and Robinson had a good look from close, but her shot rimmed out and the game went to overtime.

The Eagles came into the day down three different players who had started games, and Faith Gingrich went out late in the third quarter to leave the Eagles even more short-handed heading into the extra frame.

"We are so beat up now," Head Coach Eric Houston said after the game. "We wound up having to play five guards for stretches, because we just did not have any post players.

Robinson, who has also been battling through injury, was a difference-maker in the post. She finished with 15 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists in 39 minutes on the floor.

After the two teams traded baskets to start the overtime, the Cougars scored on back-to-back possessions to go up 69-64. It was the first time either team had led by more than four since Eastern led by six early in the second quarter.

Price answered with a tough 12-footer from the lane to close the gap back to three points. The result was too much in question for any stoppage to celebrate the milestone.

Sean used a 7-0 run to pull away to a ten-point lead. The Eagles made another late push, but it was not enough. Price finished with 23 points and nine rebounds. Amanda Riiff also added 11 points.

Marajiah Bacon led the Cougars with 41 points on 38 shots.

The Eagles will host Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
