ANNVILLE, Pa. –Eastern University Women's Basketball shot just 25 percent from the floor in a 67-38 loss to Moravian College in the opening game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College.
The Greyhounds built a 17-5 lead with two minutes left in the first quarter before the Eagles closed out the quarter with three-consecutive scoring possessions.
Amanda Riiff made a 3-pointer, and then
Brianna Young-Harris answered a Moravian hoop with a jumper.
Sarah Getzinger made a lay-up as time expired to close the Moravian advantage to 19-12.
Moravian scored the first six points of the second quarter. The Eagles clawed their way back and pulled to within ten points on a
Taylor Price jumper with just under two minutes to play in the half. That eight-point margin proved to be the mark that the Eagles could not overcome. A Riiff 3-pointer closed thee gap to eight in the third quarter, but Moravian again answered with another burst to lead 49-34 at the end of the third period.
The Eagles could only muster a single basket and a pair of
Amber Anderson free throws in the fourth quarter.
"It was a tough day," Head Coach
Eric Houston said after the game. "We had stretches where we could not throw the ball in the ocean. We will bounce back." The Eagles were 15-of-59 from the floor and only 4-of-12 from the foul line in the loss. Price scored eight points and
Taylor Azer had seven.
The Eagles will play Ursinus College at noon tomorrow.
