Women's Basketball Stopped by Ursinus

ANNVILLE, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball lost, 54-44, to Ursinus College in the consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College. Amanda Riiff led the Eagles with 13 points in the loss.

While the Eagles offense scuffled, Head Coach Eric Houston was disappointed with his team's defending and rebounding. The Bears had a 13-4 edge in second-chance points and outscored the Eagles by a 32-18 mark in the paint.

"We have to get better defensively," Houston said. "It is still early in the season, and I believe we can, but we absolutely need to get petter protecting the paint."

Riiff hit a pair of 3-pointers in the opening quarter and the Eagles held a 14-13 edge  after ten minutes. Five Eastern players scored in the period.

The second period, however, did not go as well. The teams were tied at 19 midway through the period before the Bears reeled off seven-straight points. Riiff made a pair of late free throws to close the gap to 26-21 at the half.

Riiff opened the second half with her third 3-pointer of the game, but the Bears answered with a 3-pointer on their next possession. Ursinus made only two 3-pointers in the game. The Bears built the lead to 11 before Taylor Azer and Taylor Price scored consecutive baskets to close the gap to six.

Though the quarter ended with Eastern down six, the Eagles were not able to close the gap further in the final period.

Lydia Constanzer led the Bears with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

The Eagles (0-3) will host Messiah College at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
