ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball gave up 17 offensive rebounds and 21 second-chance points on the way to a 66-53 home loss to Eagle Road-Rival Cabrini University in the season opener for both teams.
Regie Robinson had 14 points and 11 rebounds and
Taylor Price had 12 points to lead the Eagles (0-1).
The Eagles trailed by 11 with a minute to play ing the first half before
Amanda Riiff hit a 3-pointer and made a lay-up as time expired to cut the Cabrini lead to 31-25 at the break. The Eagles scored seven of the first nine pints of the second half to pull within a point before the Cavaliers began a 13-4 run with a Lexi Edwards three-point play. The Cabrini lead was eight at the end of the third quarter, and the Eagles pulled closer only one time in the fourth quarter on an
Amber Anderson jump shot with seven minutes left.
The Cavaliers work on the offensive glass turned out to be the difference in the game. Neither team shot particularly well, but the Cavaliers took nine more shots from the floor and six more attempts from the foul line.
Riiff led the Eagles at halftime with eight points. Edwards and Nomi Washington each had nine at intermission for the visitors. Edwards had a game-high 18 and Meghan Matthews scored 13 off the bench.
The win is the first in the series for th Cavaliers since 2013. The two campuses share a common border on Eagle Road.
Eastern will play against Moravian College in Lebanon Valley College's tournament on Saturday.
