GLASSBORO, N.J.– Eastern University Women's Soccer saw its six game unbeaten streak snapped with a 4-0 defeat at No. 19 Rowan University. The Eagles made it through the first half without allowing a goal, but the high-powered Rowan offense found the net four times in the second half to win a ninth-straight game.
Adrianna Rowlands made her first save less than 40 seconds into the match and made seven stops before the intermission. Rowan had a 17-0 edge in first-half shots.
The Profs found what would prove to be the game-winner on a rebound six minutes into the second half. Rowlands made a diving stop on a shot from 15 yards out, but a second Rowan forward was in position to sweep the ball across the goal line for the lead.
The game remained at 1-0 for the next 25 minutes before Rowan opened up the Eastern defense with three goals in a three minute and twenty five second stretch. The goal that broke the game open came on a broken play. Sarah Rosenberg hit a shot toward the left side of the goal that Rowlands seemed to read well, but it caromed off a defender and inside the opposite post. The next two goals came in quick succession.
Rowan (9-1-1) had won eight consecutive matches coming in and had allowed only two goals all year.
Rowlands finished with 12 saves in the match.
The Eagles (4-4-3) are at Delaware Valley University for an important MAC Freedom contest at noon on Saturday.
