WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Volleyball hit .265 on the way to an efficient three-set win at King's College. With the win, the Eagles secure a second seed and a home game in the first round of the MAC Freedom Tournament.
Michelle Paulsen again led the way for the Eagles. The junior middle hitter finished with ten kills, four blocks and a season-high three aces.
The Eagles grabbed command of the match with tough serving early and held leads throughout each set.
"We made a few nice defensive adjustments," Head Coach
Mark Birtwistle said of his team's night. "Which allowed us to earn points on serve. Our serving helped neutralize their better hitters." The Eagles recorded ten aces and were able to serve aggressively enough to push the Monarchs out of system with only two service errors.
The Eagles won the opening set 25-18 and then hit .304 in the second set to win that frame 25-14 before closing out the match 25-18.
"Michelle has been working very hard at practice to get her timing down and it's paying off," Birtwistle added. "It really is a team effort to get her going; our passing and setting choices are improving. That allows Michelle to be effective."
Birtwistle remarked about the play of
Morgan Shemonski and
Caroline Shelby on outsides. Shemonski had eight kills and hit a solid .263, and Shelby had seven kills while hitting .400.
Miranda Kauffman had a game high 11 digs and led an Eastern serve-receive that did not give up an ace.
Morgan Kline finished with 36 digs.
The Eagles have a non-league match at Widener on Friday night.
