BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -
Eastern University men's soccer rolled to an 8-1 victory over host Bryn Athyn on Thursday afternoon in the 2016 opener for both teams.
The Eagles netted seven second-half goals with three players scoring multiple goals in the win. It is the first time since an 8-0 victory over PSU-Brandywine in 2013 that Eastern has produced eight goals in one game.
After falling behind in the opening two minutes of the match,
Jadon Ramsing knotted the match at one when he converted a penalty kick in the 11th minute. The match remained tied through the first half as Eastern continued to ramp up the pressure trying to find the go-ahead goal.
After an opening scoreless 20 minutes of the second half, Ramsing slotted his second of the match in the 65th minute to give Eastern a lead that would only grow. Just under nine minutes later
Cade Harmon added to the lead when he tallied his only goal of the afternoon to extend the Eastern lead to 3-1.
Harmon's goal began a six-goal for the Eagles run that covered a 13-minute span. Freshman
Jake Sankey tallied his first collegiate goal just moments later when he finished off a pass from
JD Saracco to make it a 4-1 advantage.
Ben Hangey and
Evan Needs would then net two goals apiece to close out the scoring for the afternoon. Hangey netted two goals in less than a minute scoring once in the 83rd minute and then again in the 84th. Needs closed out the scoring tallying an unassisted goal in the 84th minute and then finishing off a pass from
Jereme Wells in the 87th to make the score final at 8-1.
The Eagles outshot the Lions 27-4 placing 16 of their shots on net. Eastern also held an advantage in corner kicks11-2.
The Eagles travel to MAC Commonwealth opponent Arcadia on September 3rd for a 1 PM match.
