Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Eastern Women's Tennis defeated host Delaware Valley on Saturday 8-1 to move to 10-2 overall this season. With the victory, the Eagles secured a place in the MAC playoffs.
First and second doubles both claimed victories in the early stages of the match to help Eastern gain a 2-1 advantage heading into the singles matches.
Laura Thomas and
Kelly Archibald moved to 6-3 on the season as a doubles team earning an 8-5 victory in the first doubles match.Â
"First doubles was trailing throughout the set and in back to back games they got behind love-40 but came back to win both of those games and take control of the set," said Head Coach
Mark Spangler. "They went on to win five of the last six games played to win 8-5."Â
Emma Paugh and
Amanda Riiff remained undefeated as a doubles team earning an 8-2 victory in the second doubles match.Â
In the single matches, the Eagles cruised to a clean sweep winning five of the six matches in straight points.
Leslie Henry battled in her match winning in three sets. Henry won the first set 6-4 and after dropping the second set won the third set decisively 10-4.Â
Emily Thomas claimed her first singles match victory of the season winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-7. " Emily played very well throughout her match to earn that win," stated Spangler.Â
"We are preparing for a big match on Saturday with Misericordia with seeding at stake," concluded Spangler. "That match will determine who gets the all-important number two seed and a home playoff match." Â
