Women's Lacrosse Stumbles at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. – Women's Lacrosse fell to host FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 19-9. With the loss, the Eagles (4-10, 2-2 MAC Freedom) sit one game in front of King's for the fourth spot in the playoff race with two games left to play.

"FDU is a solid team," said Head Coach Kim Campbell. "Facing a strong opponent forces you to make the most of every opportunity you earn. We worked hard and never stopped."

Junior Midfielder Anna Charlebois led all Eastern scorers with four goals on the day. Charlebois tallied on goal in the first half and then netted a hat trick in the second half part of a six-goal half for the Eagles offense.

FDU-Florham netted four goals in the opening five and a half minutes of the game to take a 4-0 lead. Eva Ehrhardt got Eastern on the scoreboard with over 23 minutes left to play in the first half when she tallied her third goal of the season.

An eight-goal run by the Devils would stretch the lead to 12-1 before Charlebois tallied her first of the game to cut the deficit to just ten. Julie Haggan closed out the half scoring with just over 30 seconds left to play to make the score 13-3 heading into the locker rooms.

"We scored three solid goals in the first half and wanted to double that success in the second half," continued Campbell. "We knew if we kept working we could do that."

After FDU-Florham had tallied the opening three goals of the second half, the Eastern offense started to find some rhythm and ran off four consecutive goals to pull within nine. Charlebois tallied her second of the game with over 19 minutes left to play to start the scoring run. Haggan, Stephanie Hogan, and Steph Biancucci all tallied goals within five minutes of each other to make the score 16-7 with under ten minutes left to play in the game.

The Devils had scored two straight before Charlebois tallied two of the final three goals of the game to make the score final at 19-9.

"The game as a whole prepared us for our next two conference games," concluded Campbell. "Both offensively and defensively we are continuing to get better. We have proven we don't quit and that we can score in the conference. If we continue to do those things we will be successful."

Eastern currently sits in sole possession of fourth place in the MAC Freedom standings with a one game lead over King's. The Eagles travel to Misericordia on April 25th for a 7 pm game.
