Box Score WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Eastern Women's Tennis defeated host King's College 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. After taking 2-1 after the doubles matches but would go on to take three of the six singles matches to secure the victory.
Kelly Archibald and
Laura Thomas started off the day claiming an exciting 9-8 victory in the first doubles match to give Eastern (4-1, 1-0 MAC Freedom) the 1-0 advantage.
"The turning point of the match was at 1st doubles; it was a close match with it going back and forth and many lead changes," stated Head Coach
Mark Spangler. "At 8-8 the tiebreaker commenced, Laura and Kel went down 3-0 and also 6-3. Eventually, coming back to win the tiebreaker 9-7 on a great point with some quick reflexes at the net."
Emma Paugh and
Amanda Riiff extended the Eagles lead to 2-0 when they rolled to an easy 8-3 victory in second doubles match.
Archibald also won the second singles match winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. Thomas and
Leslie Henry closed out the day claiming victories for Eastern in the fourth and fifth singles matches winning by scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-4 respectively.
"They showed some mental toughness in their long doubles match and followed it up with some good singles play as well," concluded Spangler.
Eastern hosts Cairn on April 6th at 3 pm.
