Box Score LITITZ, Pa. - Eastern Women's Tennis won its sixth straight match shutting out host Lancaster Bible, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon. It is the Eagles second win via shutout in the last three matches.
"It was a great win and one in which everyone had a hand in," said Head Coach
Mark Spangler. "The girls were focused from start to finish and did a great job of keeping that focus throughout the day."
Kelly Archibald and
Laura Thomas claimed the first doubles match winning 8-0. For the season, Archibald and Thomas are 5-2 when paired together and have won their last five matches after starting off the season 0-2.
Emma Paugh and
Amanda Riiff cruised to a victory in the second double match winning by a score of 8-2. The pairing is now a perfect 6-0 this season in their doubles matches.
"Couldn't be prouder of the way these two groups are playing," continued Spangler. "They are just in a zone right now, and they play so well off each other in each match never getting down on themselves and finding ways to overcome adversity when it presents themselves."
Eastern went on to win five singles matches in straight sets to wrap up the win. Paugh claimed the first singles match 6-2, 6-2 to move her overall record to 6-2 in singles matches this season and 5-2 in the first singles match.
Both
Leslie Henry and Riiff won their singles matches by shutting out their opponents. Riiff moved her overall record to 5-1 winning the second singles match, her third in a row, in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Henry moved to 4-3 on the season with her win and is 4-2 in the fifth singles spot.
"Both these girls have continuously gotten better as the season has progressed," continued Spangler. "To shut out an opponent in one set is impressive but to do it in two straight sets is really something. They each can be key pieces for us as we enter the heart of conference play."
