Women's Tennis Defeats Penn State Abington

Box Score ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Women's Tennis defeated visiting Penn State Abington 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead before claiming the single matches by a score of 4-2. 

Kelly Archibald and Laura Thomas started off the day with an 8-0 victory in the first doubles match. Emma Paugh and Amanda Riiff claimed their doubles match by the final of 8-2 while Leslie Henry and Hannah Reed won their match 8-4. 

"The team played solid in doubles which I think set the tone for the match," said Head Coach Mark Spangler. "I thought we served well and returned well overall in doubles play."  

Archibald won the second singles match winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. Thomas followed suit defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth singles match as did Riiff, who won in straight sets as well 6-3, 6-4 in the third. Reed rounded out the singles victories for Eastern rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the sixth singles match. 

"Kelly, Laura and Amanda did well to dictate play from the baseline and control their respective matches," concluded Spangler. "I feel confident going into the conference schedule which starts on Saturday against King's who has last year's conference player of the year."

Eastern travels to King's on April 2nd.
