ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Women's Lacrosse outscored the visiting Virginia Wesleyan Marlins 17-14 to pick up their first win of the year.

Julie Haggan, and
Stephanie Hogan combined to score 16 goals in the win.
"It's great; our team worked for it together as a unit," said Head Coach
Kim Campbell. "To see them accomplish something they have been working for is really great to see and I am proud of them."
Eastern (1-7) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two goalsin quick succession.
Alexandria Vincent tallied a free position goal in the fifth minute and Charlebois put away her first of the game 25 seconds later.
Virginia Wesleyan (2-6) rallied to take a 5-4 lead at the midpoint of the first half, but Eastern responded with an 8-3 run to over the final fifteen minutes of the first half.
Haggan gave Eastern the lead for good when she netted an unassisted goal with just over five and a half minutes left to play in the opening half. She scored again 33 seconds later finishing off a Charlebois pass to stretch the lead back to two at 9-7.
The Marlins cut the lead to one, 9-8, with just over two minutes left to play in the half. After Charlebois had given Eastern, a 10-8 lead back-to-back goals by Hogan stretched the lead to 12-8 heading into the locker rooms.
"We had to have that fire to find the cage and be able to have that vision to use one another," continued Campbell. "I think our players worked really hard to do that and earn every single goal today."
A 3-1 goal run to open the second half by Virginia Wesleyan cut the deficit to just two, 13-11. Haggan gave the Eagles a 15-12 lead when she finished off another Charlebois pass with just over eight minutes left to play in the game.
The Marlins rallied with two goals in 11 seconds to cut the Eastern lead to a single goal with less than five minutes left. The Eagles won the ensuing draw, but Virginia Wesleyan won the ball back and had a chance to tie the game on a free position shot with just over three minutes left.
Cortney Andes made with a huge save to preserve the Eastern lead. Andes would make two more big saves down the stretch to help Eastern earn the victory.
"Our goalie plays a huge part at that moment in the game as well as our two captains," stated Campbell. "They all knew they had to rally and work together in those small moments on the field to come up with the win."
Hogan gave the home side a cushion with back-to-back goals down the stretch.
Charlebois finished the game with six goals and a pair of assists. Haggan and Hogan each finished with five goals. Andes made 14 savesto earn the win.
"When you come together and execute a game plan it spurs any team to repeat success," concluded Campbell. "To solidify a win it shows that you did what you really wanted to do and I think that fact will spur them on as we continue to grow together this season."
Eastern travels to Moravian on April 2nd for a 1 pm game.
