ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Eastern Women's Lacrosse fell to visiting Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 14-2. The Garnet used an 11-1 first half score to claim the victory.
"Swarthmore definitely had a game plan and they executed both offensively and defensively," said Head Coach
Kim Campbell. "We had some great chances that we just couldn't finish off. We need to work on converting those opportunities."
Swarthmore (3-2) wasted no time getting on the board scoring less than three minutes into the game. Briana Narzikul scored the game's first goal when she converted a free position shot to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead. Narzikul would score two of the next six goals while Lizzie Kolln scored the other three to give Swarthmore a 6-0 advantage with just 13 minutes left to play in the first half.
Eastern (0-7) finally got on the scoreboard with just under 11 minutes left to play in the half when
Stephanie Hogan netted an unassisted goal of her own to make the score 7-1. That would be the extent of the Eagles scoring in the first half as the Garnet would tack on five more to close out the opening half and head to the locker room with an 11-1 lead.
The Eagles came out much more solid defensively in the second half holding Swarthmore to just three goals while gaining some of offensive opportunities. After a timeout with just over three minutes left to play in the half, Eastern won the draw cleanly and
Anna Charlebois capitalized off a
Steph Biancucci pass to make the score final at 14-2.
"We just wanted to make plays and work as a team in the second half," continued Campbell. "We called that timeout to challenege our team to get the ball and make a play. We started to make connections and utilize eachother."
Overall the Eagles took 15 shots in the game placing five of them on net while the Garnet totaled 28 shots with 25 of them on net. Swarthmore dominated groudballs scooping up 26 to Eastern's nine.
"We have to learn how to keep fighting for the ball when we are on attack," concluded Campbell. "The next step is converting our opportunities when they present themselves. If we can keep getting better at little facets of the game each day we will grow as team."
Eastern hosts Virginia Wesleyan on March 23rd at 4 pm.
