HAVERFORD, Pa. - Eastern Women's Lacrosse fell to host Haverford College 18-6 on Wednesday afternoon. Eastern pulled within one, 2-1, early on in the game but a five-goal run by the Fords turned the tide and helped Haverford cruise to the victory.
After falling behind early, 2-0
Stephanie Hogan pulled Eastern (0-6) within one when she finished off a
Julie Haggan pass to make it 2-1. However, an 8-1 goal run by Haverford (4-2) to close out the first half completely changed the tone of the game. The Fords netted five goals in a row to take a 7-1 lead, scoring two of those goals just over a minute apart from each other.
Hogan pulled the Eagles within five, 7-2, with just over eight minutes left to play in the half when she netted her second goal of the day. A three-goal run by Haverford to close out the half halted the momentum Eastern had begun to gain after Hogan's goal.
After the Fords had opened the second half with a four-goal run, Hogan completed the hat trick with she tallied an unassisted goal to make it 14-3 with just over 19 minutes left to play. Haggan then netted back-to-back goals of her own less than four minutes apart to make the score 14-5.
Haverford went on yet another four-goal run to stretch the lead all the way to 18-5. Haggan capped off the scoring for the day when she netted her third of the day with just over a minute to go to make the score final at 18-6.
Overall Eastern was outshot 31-13 by Haverford with 25 of the Fords shots winding up on net. The Eagles also committed 21 turnovers as compared to just 14 by Haverford. The Fords also dominated draw controls winning 19 to Eastern's seven.
Both Hogan and Haggan each tallied three goals while
Cortney Andes finished the day with seven saves.
Molly Lausten and Sarah Svetec led all Haverford scorers with three goals each.
Eastern hosts Swarthmore on March 19th at 11 am.
