ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Eastern Women's Lacrosse fell to visiting Kean University on Wednesday afternoon 17-1. The Cougars jumped out to a 9-0 lead en route to a 12-1 first half score.
After nearly four scoreless minutes Kean (4-0) erupted offensively scoring nine consecutive goals, four in a two-minute span. Samantha Gnapp started the scoring spree when she tallied the Cougars first goal of the game with just over 26 minutes left to play in the first half. Emily Stasuk scored 25 seconds later to stretch the lead to 2-0. Two more goals less than 30 seconds apart made it a 4-0 lead with just over twenty-four minutes left to play in the first half.
Eastern (0-4) trailing 9-0 finally got on the board with just over eight minutes left to play in the opening half.
Anna Charlebois cut through the defense and fired a shot past Kean goalie Nikki Apostolopoulos to make it 9-1.
The Cougars tacked another five goals in the second half to make the score final at 17-1. Jordan Balanda netted her fourth of the afternoon with just over 23 minutes left to play in the game. Gnapp tallied her third of the day just over two minutes later before Emily Stasuk scored back-to-back goals stretching the lead to 16-1. Krista LaMania capped off the scoring for Kean scoring the final goal of the game with just under six minutes left to play.
Stasuk finished the game with five goals to lead all Cougar scorers while also scooping up four groundballs and causing a turnover. Balanda tallied four goals while also recording four assists and causing three turnovers.
Cortney Andes made eight saves on the afternoon while
Megan Petza caused two turnovers.
Eastern travels to Haverford College on March 17th for a 4:30 pm game.
