MADISON, N.J.– Like the rest of their peers, Eastern University Men's Soccer players took midterms all week. With an important three points on the line, the Eagles came up with a sub-par grade in their final test of the week at FDU-Florham.
The Eagles (10-3-1, 2-2 MAC Freedom) scored first, but the Devils (5-6-3, 3-1 MAC Freedom) responded with three goals to pick up the win.
Colin Furlong put Eastern on the board with a 25-yard shot from the left side in the third minute, but the Eastern celebration was short-lived. The hosts answered on a nice combination in the fifth minute.
Both teams had chances to take the lead as the match progressed. FDU grabbed the lead with a goal from close range in the 43rd minute. The Eagles had a flurry of opportunities in the opening half-hour of the second half. The FDU defense, however, was equal to the test.
The hosts closed out the match with an 83rd minute tally. FDU had a 10-9 advantage in shots, and Eastern had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
"It was a lackluster performance for us today," Head Coach
Mark Wagner said after the game."We did not bring the kind of energy we needed to bring to beat them today."
The Eagles will look to rebound with an important home match against Wilkes on Wednesday afternoon.
