ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– With a hat trick in today's 4-0 win over the visiting Manhattanville College Valiants, senior forward
Emily Cole became the sixth player in Eastern Women's Soccer history to register 100 points in her career. The win is the fifth-straight win for the Eagles (6-5, 1-0 MAC Freedom)
"The team has been very focused on getting off to the right foot in the league," Head Coach
Dan Mouw said after the game. "Getting off to a good start today was important."
Cole found the net for the tenth time this season in the sixth minute.
Zoe Galvin slid a ball up the left side for
Nicole Weenink in transition. Weenink delivered a crisp low cross to the front of the goal, and Cole hit the ball in stride.
"I was really pleased with the serve Nicole hit there," Mouw added. "She clearly identified her target and hit the ball with the right weight for a relatively easy finish. Em [Cole] did the work to get there and had the composure to tuck it away."
The Eagles controlled possession but could not stretch the lead until the 37th minute.
Caroline Lozzi worked a combination with
Courtney Davis on the right flank and floated a serve into Cole at the penalty spot. Cole took a touch and buried her second of the day off the left upright. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead to intermission.
Neither team created much in the early part of the second half and the game got stuck in the middle of the field. The Valiants (3-8-1, 0-1 MAC Freedom) finally registered their first shot of the match in the 66th minute.
Cole found her third just over a minute later. Davis started the action with a ball into the feet of
Alondra Cervantes. Cervantes redirected the ball right into Cole's path. Cole let the ball run and finished the breakaway for her 44th career tally.
"She really had no idea that she was near the milestone." Mouw said. "She is just happy to see us win. I knew she was getting close, but it caught us all off guard a little bit. When she had two at half, I realized that it might happen and there would not be flowers or balloons on site. She joins a list with some really good players. It is a great accomplishment."
Carli Sitkowski scored her first career goal in the 78th minute.
Hannah Bomberger started the play with a ball out of the back to
Emma Daly. Daly earned the edge on the left side of the field and slot a ball into the scoring zone. Sitkowski's left-footed shot hit the underside of the crossbar on its way in.
"What a great goal," Mouw added. "Three players executing very well and we get a goal. It was nice that each of our goals looked like that today. The team was so thrilled to see Carli's hard work pay off. She has been doing all the right things in training and really with her movement in games. We look forward to seeing several more."
The Eagles will host Rowan on Wednesday. The Profs are unbeaten through 11 games and have yet to allow a goal.
