ST. DAVIDS, Pa.-
Emily Cole scored three times and three other players scored their first collegiate goals as Eastern Unviersity Women's Soccer topped Rosemont 6-1. The Eagles (3-2-1) held a 22-2 edge in shots in the win.
The Eagles controlled play from the outset. Despite a strong edge in possession, the home side did not get on the board until the 16th mintue. After Cole banged a ball off the right post, the ball wound up rolling out toward midfield on the left side of the Eastern attack.
Ashley Zemeski served a ball in that caught the Rosemont goalkeeper between two minds for a 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, the Ravens found the back of the net on a combination up the left hand side of the field.
Adrianna Swinehart got her hands to the cross, but was unable to knock it free. Payton Kanagie finished her first of the year for the Ravens.
The Eagles took the lead for good on a combination up the left hand side of the field.
Courtney Davis earned the edge and attacked the nearpost. The Rosemont goalkeeper got her hands to the cross, but
Katy Laurie picked up the loose ball for her first collegiate goal. The Eagles had an 11-2 edge in first-half shots.
"We did some good things in the first half," head coach
Dan Mouw said after the game, "but we also felt liek we left a lot of chances on the table as well. Our assistants gave our forwards some things to work on and we talked about mindset, and I think the players took both to heart."
Forty seconds into the second half, Cole took a pass from
Courtney Davis and ripped home her fifth goal of the season. Cole scored again from
Stephanie Le in the 60th minute. The junior forward completed her hat trick less than three minutes later on another pass from Le.
Tabitha Fake scored in the 86th minute to complete the scoring. The first year midfielder picked up a short clearance and hit an early shot just inside the far post for her first career goal.
"We did a much better job winning balls in the midfield today," Mouw stated, "that increased possession allowed us to create more chances. Steph [Le] was a big difference maker in there today. We took some good steps forward today and also found some things to work on as we go into next week."
The Eagles head into a very challenging portion of the schedule. They travel to Lebanon Valley College on Saturday and then will host Messiah next Tuesday and travel to Stockton College for the following weekend.
