TUCSON, Ariz.—Eastern University Softball fell to the
Northwestern College Red Raiders on Monday afternoon after struggling to get
anything going offensively.
The Eagles fell 8-0 to the Red Raiders in five innings in the
team's only game of the day. Eastern posted three hits in the loss. Ashton
Tomlinson, Kasey Williams and Emily Houck picked up the hits. Northwestern put
up 13 hits, six for extra bases, and scored twice in the second, four in the
third and two in the fourth.
Northwestern was hitting the ball very well in the third,
knocking four deep doubles in a row, three were ground-rule doubles and the
other caromed off the soft fence and back into play. The Red Raiders batted around in the inning.
Eagles sophomore pitcher Kristen Waters was hit with the loss.
The Eagles, while only collecting three total hits, got two
runners on base in each of the first two innings but were unable to bring them
home. Northwestern pitcher Kayla Tindall struck out seven batters in the
shutout win.
Haleigh Williams pitched a near-perfect fifth inning for the
Eagles, recording all three outs via the strikeout (one batter reached on an
error).
The Red Raiders who are already six games into their season
picked up their first win. The Eagles, who took the field for just the third
time, will go for their first win on Wednesday against Morningside College at
11 a.m. local time.
